Man Accused of Pointing Gun, Demanding Cash at Paragould Dollar General

Lafayette Ellis is accused of aggravated robbery after a man reported a struggle over a handgun at a Paragould Dollar General. Bond was set at $250,000.

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A man told Paragould police he took a handgun away from another man during a struggle at a Dollar General, according to an arrest affidavit.

Lafayette Ellis is accused of aggravated robbery, a Class Y felony, in connection with the Nov. 2 incident at 200 W. Main St. Bond was set at $250,000.

The man told police he and Ellis had arranged to meet. He said he began putting cash that had been in plain view into his pocket after Ellis got into the vehicle. Ellis then pointed a handgun at his head and demanded the money, the man told police. He said he got away after taking control of the gun.

Detective Cpl. Tron Beesley wrote that the man provided video that corroborated his account. When police questioned Ellis on Thursday, Ellis acknowledged he was with the man, had a handgun and was involved in an altercation, according to the affidavit.

Greene County District Judge Curtis Hitt found probable cause for Ellis’ arrest Thursday. If released, Ellis must comply with ankle-monitoring requirements, refrain from possessing weapons, and avoid contact with the man, witnesses, or others involved in the case.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
