PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man faces a felony charge after police said he called his estranged wife 59 times, sent her 34 messages and threatened to kill any man she brought around their child.
Eric Jason Tyler Johns is charged with first-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony, and harassing communications, a Class A misdemeanor, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene County District Court.
The alleged communications occurred during a 90-minute period on July 28, according to Detective Aaron Gamber of the Paragould Police Department.
The woman told police Johns threatened to kill any man she brought around their child, and referenced another person’s vehicle that was parked at her home. She provided investigators with a screenshot of the alleged message, the affidavit said.
Gamber interviewed Johns after advising him of his Miranda rights on July 29. According to the affidavit, Johns admitted calling and messaging the woman numerous times and acknowledged making the threat.
District Judge Curtis Hitt found probable cause for an arrest warrant and set Johns’ bond at $100,000 surety.
If released, Johns must have no contact with the victims, witnesses or others involved in the case. He also must wear an ankle monitor, possess no weapons and live a law-abiding life.
The charges are allegations. Johns is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
