Jonesboro Defendant With 22 Prior Arrests Accused of Hitting Girlfriend, Threatening to Kill Her

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro man was arrested after police said he hit his girlfriend and threatened to kill her during a disturbance in front of her daughter.

Daniel Barrett, 39, was arrested by the Jonesboro Police Department on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree domestic battery with multiple offenses within five years, both Class D felonies. He was also arrested on suspicion of endangering the welfare of a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers responded June 8 to a residence on Flint Street in reference to a 911 call. Witnesses told police Barrett struck his girlfriend with a closed fist, causing a visible injury.

Witnesses also stated Barrett threatened to kill his girlfriend in front of her daughter, who was present during the incident, according to the affidavit.

Police said Barrett was on active probation. Officers searched a room identified as his in the home and found a spoon with suspected methamphetamine residue on it.

Barrett was taken into custody. His next court date is June 30.

On Wednesday in court, Barrett asked for a low bond so he could “go to rehab.” However, his history was extensive. Bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety. A GPS ankle monitor is required if he is released. During the bond hearing, Judge David Boling noted Barrett had been arrested 22 times in the past, describing it as essentially once per year for the past 22 years.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
