PARAGOULD, Ark. — A registered sex offender was arrested after authorities said he failed to report online accounts as required by Arkansas law.
Norman Bright Alsup, 70, was arrested on suspicion of failing to comply with registration and reporting requirements, a Class C felony.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Alsup is a sex offender who is required by Arkansas law to comply with reporting requirements. On May 27, during his six-month verification, Alsup reported that he had no email addresses and no social media accounts.
However, the affidavit said Alsup gave written consent for authorities to search his phone. A search of the phone found an active unregistered email account, along with Facebook and Messenger accounts, according to the affidavit.
Records show Alsup is listed as a Level 2 sex offender for the offense of statutory sodomy.
Judge Curtis Hitt set Alsup’s bond at $100,000 cash or surety.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
