A-State’s New SGA President Seeks to Connect Students to Campus

JONESBORO – Kate Malone is a junior strategic communication major at Arkansas State University, and as of April, she is the new president of the Student Government Association (SGA).

“In my freshman year, I came in knowing that I wanted to be involved on campus,” said Malone.

A native of Germantown, Tenn., Malone is not new to leadership. She has served as vice president of campus relations as a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Epsilon Zeta and on the servant team for Campus Outreach.

Before reaching her current position, Malone was a freshman senator, Neil Griffin College of Business senator, and vice president.

After starting as a marketing major at A-State, she transitioned to the College of Liberal Arts and Communication.

“In strategic communications, we learn all about connecting with people and drawing an audience in,” Malone added. “This aligns perfectly with SGA and its mission, which is to bring all students at A-State together and allow their voices to be heard.”

In the campaign for office, Malone, alongside her fellow students elected for the 2026-2027 academic year, spoke of their campaign promises of promoting unity, impact and visibility across campus.

“Unity is about bringing all students together, no matter the background, how they got here or why they chose A-State,” Malone said. “The plan is to help students get connected across campus. Impact is to connect with students and allow them to bring their problems to us.”

She said the goal is to make A-State a better place for students. Lastly, she said visibility is a vital part of the plans for the next year.

“With visibility, we want for each student on campus to feel seen and heard. That’s what SGA is all about. We want to implement ways to reach out to students and connect with them.”
