Registered Sex Offender Arrested After Allegedly Failing to Update Address, Vehicle Information

JONESBORO, Ark. — A registered sex offender was arrested after authorities said he failed to update his address and vehicle information with the sex offender registry, according to a probable cause affidavit from the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Mandi Smyth reported being informed by a Craighead County deputy that Corey Tackett, 33, was not living at the address listed on his sex offender registry. Deputies attempted to serve a civil paper at the address on Feb. 24, 2026, but contact was instead made with Tackett’s grandfather, who said Tackett was staying with a girl in Jonesboro.

Deputies then began surveillance of the listed residence on County Road 774. According to the affidavit, multiple deputies checked the address at different times and dates but never observed Tackett’s vehicle there.

Authorities also discovered that Tackett had purchased a new vehicle and obtained insurance on it on Dec. 9, 2025. Investigators said Tackett had not updated his sex offender registration with the new vehicle information and had been driving the vehicle, including receiving a citation in Jonesboro on Feb. 20, 2026.

Deputies later located Tackett’s vehicle at a residence on Oak Leaf in Jonesboro, where it had reportedly been parked throughout the investigation.

On March 6, 2026, Tackett came to the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office to speak with Sgt. Smyth after learning deputies had been attempting to locate him. According to the affidavit, Tackett said he believed deputies had been driving by because the location where he was staying was known for drug activity.

While speaking with investigators, Tackett acknowledged that his vehicle tags had expired in February and that he had not yet obtained a new registration. He also indicated he would need to go outside to retrieve the temporary plate number and vehicle identification number required to update the registry.

Authorities then decided to interview Tackett regarding whether he could explain the discrepancies with his sex offender registration. According to the affidavit, when investigators began to read Tackett his rights, he stated he did not wish to speak and requested a lawyer.

Tackett was informed he was being charged and was asked to step into an office while waiting for a jail employee to escort him to the booking area. When a jail employee attempted to place handcuffs on him, Tackett reportedly refused to place his hands behind his back, requiring multiple officers to assist in placing the handcuffs.

Tackett was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure to register/failure to comply, a Class C felony

  • Resisting arrest, a misdemeanor

Court records show bail was set at $100,000 cash or surety by Judge David Boling, and Tackett also has a parole hold.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
