INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, Ark. — One person was killed and another injured in an early morning shooting Monday on Brown Lane in Independence County, according to the sheriff’s office.
On March 23, 2026, deputies responded around 3:20 a.m. and found one victim dead at the scene. A second victim had already been transported to a local hospital by family members, authorities said.
Investigators have identified a person of interest and are actively searching for him. Authorities named Christopher L. Johnston, born in 1978, as the individual they are seeking.
According to the sheriff’s office, Johnston was last seen in the 1600 block of Bethesda Road.
Officials say the investigation remains active.
Residents in the area are advised to stay alert, keep doors locked, and report any suspicious activity.
