JONESBORO, Ark. — An Arkansas State Police incident report by Trooper Brian Merrill details the pursuit and arrest of Amanda Lewis, 49, of Little Rock, after authorities said she fled from officers in the area of U.S. Highway 463 on Feb. 3.
According to the report, at approximately 9:58 p.m., the trooper heard a Bay Police officer advise over the radio that a vehicle was failing to yield to lights and siren on State Highway 463. The trooper reported locating the pursuit, which involved a Bay Police officer and three Craighead County deputies traveling northbound on East Nettleton Avenue within the city limits of Jonesboro.
The report states the trooper followed the slow-moving pursuit for about one-half mile and observed the Bay Police unit turn off emergency lights and siren, then continue heading northbound. Craighead County deputies also disengaged their lights but continued following the suspect vehicle, according to the report.
The trooper reported that he engaged emergency lights, moved into the lead position, and conducted a Tactical Vehicle Intervention on the suspect vehicle.
After exiting his vehicle, the trooper reported giving verbal commands for the driver to show her hands. The driver was described as visibly shaking and holding an object in her hand. The trooper wrote that he believed the object to be a taser and instructed the driver to drop it, but she did not comply with multiple commands.
The report states one of the Craighead County deputies broke a window to gain access to the suspect. The driver’s window was broken and the vehicle was unlocked, according to the report. The trooper wrote that once access was gained, a Jonesboro Police officer entered the back seat behind the suspect, while the trooper and another deputy were able to grab the suspect’s arm and hold what was described as a taser in an attempt to get the suspect disarmed. The report states the suspect continued attempting to tase officers.
The report states Lewis was disarmed, removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.
Lewis is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, a Class D felony, and fleeing, a misdemeanor. Bond was set at $200,000 by Judge Ralph Wilson. She is scheduled to return to court Feb. 27.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
