Paragould Suspect Arrested After DHS Photo Shows Injured 3-Year-Old

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A 24-year-old Paragould suspect was arrested Sunday after authorities said a photo provided by the Arkansas Department of Human Services showed a child with injuries consistent with being slapped.

According to a probable-cause affidavit, the Paragould Police Criminal Division was contacted Dec. 7 by a DHS investigator regarding injury to a 3-year-old child. DHS requested a welfare check and provided a photo of the alleged victim. Investigators reported that the photo showed “significant redness” on the left side of the child’s face.

Police contacted the child’s mother and the potential defendant, identified as Jaden Sharp, 24.

Sharp was taken into custody and transported to the police department for questioning. Investigators said that during a Mirandized interview, Sharp gave self-incriminating statements.

Sharp was arrested on a charge of second-degree domestic battering, a Class C felony. Bail has not yet been set pending the suspect’s first court appearance.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
