JONESBORO, Ark. — A Craighead County inmate faces new charges after a fight inside the detention center left another inmate with multiple facial fractures.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the altercation happened Oct. 26 in the S-2 barracks. Security video showed inmates Curtis Adams and Jeffrey Wigtion talking near the sinks before Adams allegedly punched Wigtion in the face. The two then struggled and fell into the shower area, where other inmates crowded around and blocked the camera view.
After several minutes, Adams was seen walking out of the shower area, while Wigtion remained inside until detention officers arrived. Wigtion was taken to St. Bernard’s Medical Center and later transferred to UAMS in Little Rock. Medical paperwork showed he suffered a broken orbital bone, fractured maxillary sinus wall, zygomatic arch fracture, a facial hematoma, and several stitches.
During an interview Oct. 31, Adams admitted fighting with Wigtion but denied mounting and beating him in the face. He told investigators both men were fighting when they entered the shower area.
Adams, 38, faces a new charge of second-degree battery, a Class D felony. His bail was set at $25,000, but he will not be released until a parole hold is resolved.
Adams was previously arrested after allegedly hitting his father in the head with a wrench, according to K8 News.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
