PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould woman is accused of being intoxicated and aggressive toward hospital staff and officers while caring for two small children, according to a probable cause affidavit filed this week.
Anna Wilkinson, 25, of Paragould, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, a Class D felony; two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor; refusal to submit; disorderly conduct; obstructing governmental operations; and public intoxication.
According to Paragould police, officers were dispatched to Arkansas Methodist Medical Center on Dec. 1 regarding an intoxicated mother and two children under 1 year old. Hospital staff told officers that Wilkinson appeared highly intoxicated and had been aggressive with medical personnel.
When officers contacted Wilkinson, she allegedly refused to provide her name and told them her 5-month-old child had fallen off a bed, causing minor injury. Officers noted that she struggled to form coherent sentences, her speech was slurred, and an odor of intoxicants came from the room.
During the investigation, Wilkinson allegedly became aggressive in the presence of her mother and the children. Officers attempted to take her into custody for public intoxication, but police said she began yelling, causing a disturbance for hospital staff and patients.
When officers escorted her outside, police said Wilkinson resisted placement in a patrol vehicle and began spitting on officers. She was eventually restrained and transported to the Greene County Jail.
Judge Dan Stidham set Wilkinson’s bail at $15,000 cash only. She was ordered to have no contact with Arkansas Methodist Medical Center and must wear an ankle monitor.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
