First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro to Host Pet Blessing on October 5

Jonesboro, AR – First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro invites the community to a Pet Blessing on Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 2:00–3:00 p.m. in the church parking lot at the corner of Union Street and Matthews Avenue.

This joyful event will give thanks for all God’s creatures – great and small. Each animal present will receive a personal blessing and a small gift.

As part of the celebration, donations will be accepted for the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society. Items needed include:

  • Clorox or Purex brand bleach
  • OdoBan cleaner
  • Laundry detergent
  • Disposable gloves
  • Fabuloso cleaner
  • Bottled water
  • Paper towels
  • Blue Dawn dish detergent
  • 13-gallon trash bags
  • Collars and leashes
  • Clumping cat litter
  • Cat and dog food for the pantry
  • Milk Bone dog treats

Many congregations around the world hold blessings of the animals near October 4, the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. We invite all animal lovers to bring their caged or leashed pets for this special occasion.

For pets who do not travel well or prefer the comfort of home, owners are encouraged to bring a photo of their pet (printed or on a phone) to receive a blessing. Children are also welcome to bring their favorite stuffed animal for a blessing.

First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro seeks to share the love of Christ with Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Open Doors. Guided by the virtues of patience, kindness, and humility, we are a welcoming community rooted in grace. As part of the United Methodist Church, we believe God’s love comes to us on its way to others—and we strive to live that love through worship, service, and compassion. Learn more at www.fumcj.org.
