JONESBORO, Ark. — A Lawrence County man ended up behind bars in Craighead County after an alleged shoplifting incident over the weekend.
Jeffrey Allen Presson, 34, of Hoxie, faces a charge of theft of $1,000 or less from a building, second offense, after his arrest in Jonesboro.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers were dispatched on Sept. 6 to 2800 Parkwood, which is listed as the address for Academy Sports, in reference to a reported shoplifter. Police said Presson picked up a flashlight and returned it to the service desk for a gift card. He then reportedly went to his vehicle, came back inside, and attempted to shop with the gift card before being taken into custody.
Presson has several prior convictions and an active warrant out of Lawrence County, the affidavit states. Judge David Boling noted Presson also has nine prior misdemeanor failures to appear and is currently on felony probation.
Bail was set at $15,000 cash or surety. Jail records also show a hold from outside of the county.
Presson is scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 30, 2025.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
