Jonesboro Man Accused of Pointing Gun at Woman in Shower

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Jonesboro man is accused of holding a gun to a woman’s head while she was in the shower, according to a police report, in a case authorities say involved drugs.

The probable cause affidavit states that at 6:04 a.m. on Sept. 4, Jonesboro police responded to the 1700 block of Taylor Lane after receiving a report of a robbery. Officers met with the alleged victim, who was wet, nude, and had a cut on her thumb. She told police that her boyfriend, identified as Justin McGuire, pointed a firearm at her while she was in the shower.

The victim said she fled the residence, broke a front door window to gain entry into a nearby home, and was hidden under a bed by the resident, who contacted authorities. Police transported both the suspect and the victim to the department for questioning.

According to the affidavit, the victim said that around 5 p.m. the previous evening, McGuire took her phone because he suspected she was romantically involved with another man. He was also reportedly upset over a missing “lockbox” that contained methamphetamine and marijuana.

Around 3 a.m., the victim said McGuire woke her and told her to sit on the couch. During this time, she heard a man on the phone, Brandon Potter, discussing that she had allegedly provided information to law enforcement about his whereabouts. Potter, who was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service, allegedly instructed McGuire to kill the victim.

“Potter told McGuire to kill [the] victim in the shower as it would be easy to clean up,” Detective Andy Starnes wrote in the affidavit. “Victim stated that McGuire instructed her to get in the shower, which she did, just thinking he would ‘hit’ her and it would be over with.”

The victim told police that McGuire had a history of physical abuse, which she said was “no big deal.”

The affidavit states that McGuire entered the shower with the victim, racked the slide on a black and silver pistol, and held it against her forehead, telling her, “You know I love you, right?” She pushed him and fled, hiding in a pickup truck before running to the nearby residence.

Authorities later obtained a search warrant for the residence and reportedly found a white crystal substance and the Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun hidden behind a portable fireplace.

Justin McGuire, 37, of Jonesboro, was arrested and faces two Class D felony charges: aggravated assault on a family or household member and possession of methamphetamine. DPA Jessica Thomason indicated in court the charges could be amended or upgraded.

Judge Tommy Fowler set bail at $50,000 cash or surety and issued a no-contact order. The next court date in the case is October 30, 2025.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
