Brookland Woman Accused of Attacking Mother, Threatening to Kill Her

BROOKLAND, Ark. — A Brookland woman is accused of attacking her mother and threatening to kill her during a disturbance last month.

Mariah Dean Taylor, 34, of Brookland, faces charges of second-degree domestic battering with physical injury, a Class B felony, and first-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers responded to a residence on Perry Drive on Aug. 20 for a disturbance in progress. Police said Taylor’s mother told them her daughter had physically assaulted her before fleeing in a vehicle.

The affidavit states Taylor forced her way into her mother’s bedroom, struck her several times with a ceramic statue, and knocked her to the ground. The victim reported being kicked repeatedly while on the ground. Officers noted swelling to her left eye and a bleeding, swollen lip.

The victim told police she was able to escape and lock herself inside her vehicle for safety. She also alleged that Taylor threatened to kill her before fleeing the scene. Officers later issued a BOLO, and Brookland police located and arrested Taylor.

On Wednesday, Sept. 3, Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler set Taylor’s bail at $75,000 cash or surety with a no-contact order in place. Her next court date is scheduled for Sept. 30.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
