Loomis Guard Accused of Stealing Thousands From ATMs

JONESBORO, Ark. — A Loomis armed guard is facing a felony theft charge after authorities say he admitted to stealing thousands of dollars from ATMs while on duty in Craighead County.

Jonathan Dudley Sykes, 30, of Black Rock, was arrested following a report made on August 5, 2025. Deputy Rogers with the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office responded to 6604 Highway 1 in Jonesboro, where two Loomis supervisors reported catching Sykes in the act of stealing cash during his route.

Matt Whittington and Matt McGaugh, identified as Sykes’ supervisors, told Craighead County deputies they had confronted him, disarmed him of his service weapon, and recovered money taken that same day. The pair said they had also found additional funds in Sykes’ wallet. The total amount reportedly stolen by Sykes was $4,699, with $2,149 of that taken from ATMs in Craighead County.

Sykes allegedly provided a written statement admitting to the thefts. In a recorded interview, Sykes told the deputy that he had been stealing money from ATMs for about a month to help his family, who he said were experiencing financial hardship. He estimated the total amount taken at around $2,500, although his supervisors reported a higher figure.

Sykes was charged with theft of property valued at more than $1,000 but less than $5,000, a felony under Arkansas law. On Wednesday, Judge David Boling set his bail at $10,000, cash or surety.

The case remains under investigation.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
