JONESBORO, Ark. — Two people appeared in court on Wednesday, each facing charges including Class Y felonies for alleged drug trafficking in Jonesboro.
According to the probable cause affidavit released on Wednesday, a drug investigation began in April 2025 by the Second Judicial District Drug Task Force. The task force received information that a man named “Tay” was involved in selling cocaine and methamphetamine. Tay was identified as Dante Dewayne Haggins.
DTF agents were contacted by a confidential informant (CI) about he/she being able to purchase cocaine from Haggins. Agents reportedly conducted controlled buys while using the CI, who would be given DTF buy money and a covert recording device. The CI would meet with Haggins, exchange money for the suspected cocaine, and meet back up with agents who would take possession of the drugs.
The drugs were field-tested positive for cocaine, the affidavit said. Each purchase was for more than two grams but less than 10. Agents concluded the investigation in May.
On Tuesday, July 8, agents were conducting surveillance at the address, an apartment at 996 Links. Arrest and search warrants were obtained. After waiting for Haggins to leave, police conducted a traffic stop and arrested him. A female passenger was arrested for misdemeanor obstruction.
Authorities entered the residence and cleared it. Ashante Haggins, who was in her bedroom, was removed from the home while police searched.
During a search, agents found what they described as a large amount of cocaine, marijuana, and psychedelic mushrooms in plastic bags. 230 grams of cocaine, 901 grams of mushrooms, and 2,082 grams of marijuana were reportedly recovered in the kitchen area. Also located were various pills, including ecstasy, alprazolam, oxycodone, and hydrocodone. Digital scales, baggies, a vacuum sealer with bags, and other paraphernalia items were located.
Ashante declined to speak to police without an attorney present. However, the affidavit says Dante claimed ownership of all of the narcotics.
Dante Dewayne Haggins, 46, and Ashante Haggins, 19, both of Jonesboro, were arrested on Tuesday. Both appeared in court on Wednesday for bail hearings. Charges include:
- Trafficking a controlled substance (two counts), Class Y felonies
- Possession of drug paraphernalia, Class B felony
- Possession of Sch I or II, Purpose to Deliver (three counts), Class C felony
- Offenses related to maintaining premises, Class C felony
- Possession of Sch IV or V, Purpose to Deliver (three counts), Class D felony
Dante also faces two charges of delivery of meth or cocaine, greater than 2 grams but less than 10 grams, Class B felonies.
Judge David Boling noted Dante had claimed ownership of the drugs. The judge also mentioned that Dante had previous drug charges and was already out on bond for possession with intent to deliver. With that in mind, the judge set Dante’s bail at $150,000 cash or surety while Ashante’s bail was set at $10,000 cash or surety.
Both are scheduled to appear in court next on August 21.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
