Former Greene County Sheriff’s Finance Director Arrested in $40,000 Theft Investigation

PARAGOULD, Ark. — The former finance director for the Greene County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested in connection with an ongoing theft investigation involving approximately $40,000 in missing funds.

Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division agents arrested Tammy Doherty, 54, of Paragould, according to a news release issued Friday.

The investigation began in July 2024. ASP said Doherty was terminated after an internal investigation determined she had fraudulently claimed 75 hours of work time.

The investigation was later expanded after Arkansas Legislative Audit identified missing funds from the inmate commissary system. An additional review revealed missing circuit court funds, bringing the total amount to approximately $40,000, according to ASP.

Doherty was being held Friday at the Greene County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.

The release did not specify the formal allegations for which Doherty was booked. Jail records show a charge of theft of property greater than $25,000. ASP said the investigation remains ongoing and no additional information would be released at this time.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
