Paragould Man Accused of Assaulting Pregnant Woman During Car Ride

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A Paragould man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after a domestic altercation recently in Craighead County.

According to a probable cause affidavit from the Brookland Police Department, Officer Josh Whitley responded to a report of a domestic battery inside the Brookland city limits. He met with Greene County deputies who had both the alleged victim and the arrestee, Colton Weslee Hauptman, 31, located at a residence in Paragould.

The victim told police she picked Hauptman from a friend’s house in Jonesboro at his request and was taking him back to Paragould. During the drive, she reported he began violently assaulting her in the vehicle, allegedly punching her in the face twice, threatening to kill her, and threatening to kill himself while also making attempts ot grab the steering wheel.

The affidavit goes on to say Hauptman threw her phone out the window to prevent her from calling 911.

The victim sustained injuries to her neck and face, including several scratches, redness to her face, and a swollen eye. Police noted the injuries were consistent with statements made by the victim. Officers also reported that the victim is six months pregnant with the suspect’s child.
