Police Investigate Two Weekend Shootings in Blytheville; One Dead, One Injured

BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. — Blytheville police responded to two separate shootings over the weekend, including one that left a juvenile dead and another that resulted in a man being hospitalized in Memphis.

On Friday, June 6, officers were called to the 1100 block of Myrtle for a report of a shooting, a media advisory said. When they arrived, they found a male juvenile with no signs of life.

Eddie Garner, 18, of Blytheville, was taken into custody at the scene and faces a charge of negligent manslaughter, according to the Blytheville Police Department.

Garner was scheduled to appear in Blytheville District Court on Monday, June 9.

The second shooting occurred on Sunday, June 8, in the 400 block of North Ruddle. Officers arrived to find a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound and began rendering aid. The victim was transported to Region One Health in Memphis for treatment. There was no word from the police on his condition.

Police have issued a warrant for Leon Henderson, 24, of Blytheville in connection with Sunday’s shooting, according to BPD’s PIO, Sgt. Robin Haught-Angel.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on Henderson’s whereabouts to contact the Blytheville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 870-762-0400.

The cases remain under investigation.
