Sex Offender Accused of Failure to Comply with Reporting Requirements in Craighead County

JONESBORO, Ark. — A registered sex offender now faces a Class C felony for allegedly failing to comply with reporting requirements in Craighead County.

On May 12, Sgt. Smyth, with the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, requested that Jeremiah Selfridge come to his office for a six-month verification check on the Arkansas sex offender registry. The probable cause affidavit says Selfridge stated no information had changed on his registration. The officer asked him about his address, specifically. The affidavit states that Selfridge said he was staying both at Craighead County Road 333 and in Marion County. He was told he could not live at both locations due to being a sex offender, and stated he was residing at Craighead County Road 333.

However, on May 12, the sergeant was contacted by the property owner at Craighead 333, who stated that on May 9, deputies completed a Writ of Possession at the property, turning it back over to the owner, who found the property abandoned.

Deputies verified that the address appeared to be abandoned, with water shut off and very little furniture in the home.

Sgt. Smyth verified with court documentation that Selfridge was evicted on May 9. Despite that, he stated to the investigator that on May 12, he still lived there. Because of this, a failure to register warrant was issued.

Jeremiah Wayne Selfridge, 27, was arrested on May 22. He appeared before Circuit Judge Barbara Halsey for his bond hearing on Friday. Bail was set at $50,000 cash or surety with an ankle monitor required upon release.

His next court appearance is scheduled for June 27.

Selfridge was originally charged with rape and incest before the state dropped the rape charge, according to KTLO.com. His conviction was for incest involving a victim who was an adult female. Selfridge is a level 3 registered sex offender.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
