Southern Hills, located between Interstate 555 and Mt. Carmel Road, is designed to bring a mix of restaurants and everyday services to the area. Southern Hills is part of a broader wave of commercial growth in south Jonesboro, an area experiencing increased residential and retail activity.

Founded in 1950 in Corpus Christi, Texas, Whataburger is known for its made-to-order burgers, 24-hour service and distinctive orange-and-white striped roofs. The company operates more than 950 locations across 14 states, with a strong presence in the South and Southwest. Its menu includes burgers, chicken sandwiches, breakfast items and specialty drinks.

Whataburger has been steadily expanding beyond its Texas roots in recent years. The company moved its headquarters to San Antonio in 2009 and underwent majority acquisition by Chicago-based investment firm BDT Capital Partners in 2019, a move that fueled broader expansion plans.
