JONESBORO, Ark. — Mayor Harold Copenhaver won his reelection campaign on Tuesday night. Dec. 3.
The runoff election pitted Councilman LJ Bryant against the incumbent Copenhaver. With 8,714 votes cast, Copenhaver won with about 60.4% of the vote, or 5,264 votes. Bryant received about 39.6%, or 3,446 votes.
In the general election, Copenhaver and Bryant were the top two finishers. Copenhaver pulled 45.3% while Bryant received 35%, Jeremy Terrell received 16% and Thomas Elwood received about 4% of the vote. Those results sent the campaign into a runoff between the top two contenders.
Compared to the general election, Bryant only increased his vote total by about 4.6% in the runoff while Copenhaver increased his percentage by over 15%.
Of the votes cast in the runoff election, 5,127 were early votes, with 3,192 voting for Copenhaver to 1,953 voting for Bryant.
The election results will be certified by the Craighead County Election Commission at noon on Dec. 13.
