JONESBORO, Ark. — Another theft has been reported in Jonesboro where the suspects came from out of state.
On Nov. 17, officers with the Jonesboro Police Department responded to a local business regarding a theft in progress. While en route, officers were informed that the suspects had left the business in a black passenger car with Tennessee tags. Arkansas State Police were also notified due to the possibility of the car traveling back to Tennessee.
Officers arrived at the business and spoke to an employee. They reviewed security footage of the incident and observed a man standing near the purse section. The affidavit states that the man can be seen on video removing security tags from the purses and walking out of the store with the items. The male’s apparent accomplice followed him out of the store with a large amount of clothing afterward. $5,880.29 of merchandise was stolen from the store.
As Jonesboro authorities were on the scene, they learned ASP had conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, locating stolen property in the back seat. Jonesboro officers went to the stop location and arrested the suspects.
Timothy A. Cook, 34, of Memphis, was arrested for shoplifting greater than $5,000, a Class C felony, and first-degree unlawful removal of a theft detection device, a Class A misdemeanor. On Monday, Nov. 18, Judge David Boling set bail at $150,000 cash or surety, with a GPS ankle monitor ordered. The judge noted that the suspect had no ties to Jonesboro.
Perry G. Gentry, 35, of Memphis, was also arrested for shoplifting greater than $5,000, a Class C felony. Judge David Boling also set his bail at $150,000 cash or surety with a GPS ankle monitor ordered. The judge again noted the suspect had no ties to Jonesboro, in addition to having two failure-to-appear warrants out of Tennessee.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
