Woman Faces Felonies for Allegedly Mailing Marijuana in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, Ark. — Authorities seized a package in the mail containing marijuana and arrested a woman on multiple felony charges last week in Jonesboro.

On Nov. 8, 2024, the Second Judicial District Drug Task Force received a call about a suspicious package at Pak Mail on Southwest Drive. Marijuana packaged with dryer sheets was being shipped inside a box to an address in Houston, according to the probable cause affidavit. The package was shipped with the defendant’s name and prior address printed on it.

Authorities first brought the package to the Drug Task Force office, where K9 Frost signaled a positive alert for narcotics. The affidavit notes the dog sniffed multiple packages. Agents obtained the search warrant, finding a black bag labeled Planet 13 Las Vegas and two large Ziploc bags containing 127 grams of marijuana.

Judge David Boling signed a bench warrant for the arrest of the defendant whose name was on the package, Elizabeth Smith-McNeal, on a charge of Delivery of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance.

Agents visited the 3700 block of Pilgrim Circle to make the arrest. After obtaining another search warrant, they found 104 grams of marijuana packaged like the ones sent through Pak Mail. Authorities found more marijuana throughout the home. The residents, including the defendant, did not possess a medical marijuana card, the affidavit said.

Elizabeth Smith-McNeal, 51, of Jonesboro, was arrested on charges including delivery of a schedule VI controlled substance, a Class C felony, and possession of a schedule VI substance with purpose to deliver, a Class D felony.

Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause to charge the defendant and set a $25,000 cash or surety bond on Tuesday.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
