PARAGOULD, Ark. — A frightening scene unfolded over the weekend in Greene County that ended with a woman being airlifted and a man being arrested for felony battery.
At about 11:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, the Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a woman screaming for help in the 100 block of County Road 753, according to a release posted to social media. While en route, dispatch told authorities that approximately four gunshots had been fired in the same area. Authorities arrived to find a female lying on the ground with obvious head trauma.
Also lying nearby was the alleged male assailant. The suspect had allegedly been actively attacking the female when a neighbor in the area intervened and stopped the attack. The gunshots had come from the good Samaritan shooting into the air to draw attention to the incident so that someone could contact the authorities.
Tyler Oneal, 32, was arrested at the scene for second-degree domestic battering.
The probable cause affidavit released on Monday states that deputies found Oneal covered in what appeared to be the victim’s blood. Oneal shouted “She started the whole God d*mn thing,” when authorities arrived. A witness told the sheriff’s office he was “beating the f*ck out of her.”
The female was very disoriented on the scene, but authorities said she stated, “he wanted me to die.” She also said Oneal was hitting her in the head with tools out of a toolbox.
Detective Ashten Jackson spoke with the alleged victim the next morning after she had been airlifted. She said the altercation started inside a residence, and that Oneal was hitting her with tools when she took off running to the neighbor’s house for help. Witnesses heard the female yelling for help as she ran down the roadway and called 911.
On Monday, Judge Dan Stidham found probable cause to charge Oneal. His bail was set at $50,000 cash-only.
Sheriff Brad Snyder told NEA Report the alleged victim was released from the hospital the following day.
“She’s battered pretty badly, but is on the mend,” Snyder said.
