Man Arrested for Allegedly Leaving the Scene of Accident in Paragould

PARAGOULD, Ark. — A man faces several charges including a felony after he allegedly caused an accident with a motorcycle and then left the scene.

Jeremy L.V. Long, 34, of Paragould, was ordered held on a $10,000 cash-only bond by Judge Dan Stidham. He faces charges including leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injuries, a Class D felony; driving with a suspended or revoked license, an unclassified misdemeanor; and failure to yield, an unclassified misdemeanor.

In the probable cause affidavit, Detective Jacob Higdon with the Paragould Police Department writes that at about 9 PM on August 17, a black motorcycle was traveling south on Highway 49 as a reddish-orange sedan was traveling north on the same roadway. As both vehicles approached the intersection of 49 and West Court Street, the north and southbound lanes had green lights. However, the sedan made a left turn into the path of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle struck the right rear of the sedan. The driver of the motorcycle was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Instead of remaining at the scene as required by law, the sedan fled.

On August 19, officers located a reddish-orange sedan, with damage to the right rear consistent with the crash, at a residence on West Main Street. Police made contact with Long at the residence, where he reportedly related that he had been involved in a crash Saturday night and fled the scene.

The affidavit goes on to say that in a Mirandized interview, the defendant made incriminating statements about the incident.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
