Criminals Are On a Spree of Vehicle Break-Ins in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, Ark. – A large number of vehicle break-ins have been reported recently in Jonesboro, with police reports this week adding even more to the growing number.

The crimes often occur at night, with the victim often not realizing their belongings have been stolen until the next morning. In every circumstance, breaking into a vehicle or unlawfully entering a vehicle is a felony crime. However, police must catch the perpetrators to charge them.

Between June 24 and June 25 at the 200-block of Bettie Drive, a pickup truck was broken into and a victim’s passport was stolen.

Between June 24 and June 25 at the 200-block of S. Allis Street, a vehicle was entered and property was stolen.

Between midnight and 4 AM June 25 at the 100-block of Leggett Street, an unlocked vehicle was entered.

Early June 26 at the 1900-block of Links Circle, a back passenger window to a vehicle was broken out.

Sometime after 10 PM on June 25 at the 700-block of Walnut Street, a suspect entered a victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole property. However, there was security camera footage involved in this incident. According to the police report, at 10:07 PM, three black males can be seen on security video walking on Vine St, walking by a maroon Jeep. As they pass by the vehicle, one of the males, wearing a yellow or light orange hoodie, can be seen ducking down and walking over to the driver’s side of the Jeep. The video is not clear but the male gained entry through an unlocked door. The two other males can be seen casually walking on Vine as the first suspect is getting into the Jeep.

Between 10 PM on June 25 and 3 AM on June 26, someone broke into a vehicle at the 3300-block of Jendon Cove and stole a wallet.

Between 8 PM on June 21 and 8 AM on June 22, a vehicle was entered at the 2800-block of Fred Street and a Glock 17 was stolen. The report, filed online, did not specify why several days had passed between the alleged crime and the report.

Between 10 PM on June 26 and 5 AM on June 27 at the 1000-block of North Patrick, a suspect broke the back passenger window and damaged the steering column to a 2017 Hyundai Sonata.

Many of these cases have been linked together, suggesting that police believe there is a coordinated effort. With at least one report detailing three people working together, it appears to be a group criminal activity. Police need hard evidence to stop these crimes.
