PARAGOULD, Ark. – A man finds himself facing several serious theft charges after being arrested by the Paragould Police Department last week.
On May 25, 2024, a witness reported to police seeing several black males carrying concealed merchandise out to their vehicle from a local game store, the probable cause affidavit says. The witness provided the vehicle description and license plate number.
The business confirmed the theft of merchandise to police. A second business also reported three black males stole merchandise around the same time, providing the same suspect information as the first witness.
Police located the suspect vehicle inside the garage of a local tire shop. Police noted one male was in the vehicle and two were standing in the garage. The male in the vehicle was identified as Robert Ankston. The two males in the garage fled on foot and police gave chase but the affidavit doesn’t say if they were apprehended. Ankston also left the area but was soon found inside of a nearby business.
Several thousand dollars of merchandise stolen from each business was recovered. Included in the stolen goods were tools belonging to the tire shop.
Ankston was interviewed after being read his Miranda rights and the affidavit says he made incriminating statements. He faces two felony charges of theft of property and one misdemeanor charge of theft of property.
Judge Dan Stidham found probable cause to set Ankston’s bond at $100,000 cash only, with the defendant ordered to have no contact with the victims or witnesses, ordered to not possess any weapons, or commit any acts that would result in his arrest.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
