BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. – A city council meeting this week in Blytheville saw the appointment of a new interim police chief.
John Frazier was announced as the interim police chief at Tuesday, March 19’s Blytheville City Council meeting. Captain Vanessa Stewart was named the interim assistant police chief, as well.
Blytheville Mayor Melisa Logan is reviewing six applicants to fill the position. It was made vacant by the retirement of then-Police Chief Ross Thompson in February. Thompson retired after being placed on administrative leave for behavioral concerns.
The six applicants being considered for the position are Russell Gray, Jason Simpkins, Robert Ephlin, Charles Middlebrooks, Robin Haught-Angel, and Frazier. All the officers except Gray are Blytheville police, with Gray being a Jonesboro officer.
The Blytheville Police Department’s Facebook page shared the announcement with congratulations Tuesday.
