JONESBORO, Ark. – The day has finally arrived and Barnes & Noble is officially back in business in Jonesboro.
The company opened its new Jonesboro bookstore on Wednesday, February 7th. The new Barnes & Noble is located in The Uptown at Crossroads (2300 E Highland Dr. Suite, Jonesboro, AR 72401) in the space formerly occupied by Pier 1, next to Office Max and near Target and Lowe’s.
The bookstore officially opened to the public at 9 AM, with author Phyllis R. Dixon cutting the ribbon and signing copies of her books.
The new store is designed just like the recent Barnes & Noble openings, with all the stuff you love – books, toys, games, and gifts. There’s also a B&N Café where you can grab a coffee and hang out.
“There is nowhere we have wanted more to return than to Jonesboro,” said James Daunt, CEO, Barnes & Noble. “Readers in Northeast Arkansas remember fondly our previous bookstore in the Turtle Creek Mall and were dismayed when it was demolished by a tornado in March of 2020. Now, as we open new shops at a pace not achieved in decades, it is with great satisfaction that we return to communities we have long served. We could not be happier to be back in Jonesboro with this stunning and expansive new Barnes & Noble.”
Barnes & Noble is experiencing remarkable growth attributed to its strategy of empowering local booksellers to manage each bookstore. This approach has yielded notable success, reflected in robust sales across its current stores. After a period of declining store numbers spanning over 15 years, the bookseller has embarked on a spree of new store openings. In 2023 alone, Barnes & Noble introduced more new bookstores than it did throughout the entire decade from 2009 to 2019. Anticipating continued expansion, the bookseller aims to open over 50 new bookstores in 2024.
The Jonesboro bookstore marked the debut of three upcoming Barnes & Noble stores set to open in February. The bookseller plans to unveil locations in Panama City Beach, FL, and American Fork, UT, in the following weeks. This announcement comes on the heels of the recent launch of five new Barnes & Noble bookstores in January, situated in Coconut Point, FL; Ledgewood, NJ; Redding, CA; Visalia, CA; and Kalispell, MT.
“Barnes & Noble has consistently been the most requested retailer to return in this area since the devastating tornado in early 2020,” said Store Manager Chris Bolick. “I am so honored to be part of bringing Barnes & Noble back to this wonderful community. We can’t wait to welcome you into your beautiful new Jonesboro Barnes & Noble.”
