BROOKLAND, Ark. – A press release from the Brookland Police Department on Thursday detailed an investigation this week into a burglary at the concession stand – and the arrests that came as a result.

On Monday, January 29, 2024, the Brookland Police Department was notified by Brookland School officials of a Commercial Burglary that occurred at the Brookland Schools Baseball/Softball concession stand in the early morning hours of January 28, 2024. An investigation was immediately initiated.

The responding officer reported that the concession stand had been damaged by the suspect(s) deploying fire extinguishers inside of the structure. This caused the need for the substance that was discharged from inside of the fire extinguishers to be cleaned up by an outsourced professional cleaning company.

Clothing was also destroyed from the substance discharged from the fire extinguishers coming into contact with the fabric on these items.

During the investigation it was learned that the suspect(s) stole clothing, such as uniforms, hats, and other Brookland athletics apparel. Also stolen from the concession stand consisted of Brookland equipment bags, and baseballs.

The total dollar amount of both damages from the burglary and the theft reported to the Brookland Police Department by Brookland School officials totaled approximately $9,180.60.

As the investigation progressed Brookland School officials provided evidence which implicated several students in the burglary.

On January 30, 2024, Brookland Police conducted an interview of a juvenile with their parent present. Based on evidence that was obtained through the investigation, as well as from the juvenile’s own admission, the juvenile was arrested for Commercial Burglary, Theft $5,000.00 or less but greater than
$1,000.00, and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree.

Based on information obtained from the above interview, Brookland Police went to an address in Brookland and was able to recover a substantial amount of the stolen property from this incident.

On January 31, 2024, Brookland Police conducted an interview of another juvenile with their parent present. Based on evidence that was obtained through the investigation, as well as from the juvenile’s own admission, this juvenile was also arrested for Commercial Burglary, Theft $5,000.00 or less but greater than $1,000.00, and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree.

Later, on January 31, 2024, Brookland Police conducted an interview of an 18-year-old student of Brookland Public Schools identified as Nicholas Wayne Andrews. During this interview, Andrews requested a lawyer before answering questions. Based on evidence developed through the investigation, Andrews was arrested for Commercial Burglary, Theft $5,000.00 or less but greater than $1,000.00, and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree. Andrews was transported to the Craighead County Detention Center to await a Probable Cause Hearing scheduled for February 2, 2024.

This incident is currently still under investigation by the Brookland Police Department and other arrests are possible in this case.

The Brookland Police Department would like to credit the Brookland School District and the technology it employs district-wide to ensure the safety of both students and faculty, as well as that technology’s use to combat property crime.
