JONESBORO, Ark. – A 79-year-old Jonesboro woman was cited this week by police after drama unfolded where she was caught allegedly stealing her neighbor’s cat.

It happened around noon on October 10 at the 800-block of South Hill Drive in Jonesboro. Officer Jordan Fowler responded in reference to a stolen cat. The cat’s owner, a 35-year-old woman, reported to police that her neighbor has repeatedly locked the cat in the garage and won’t let it out.

Officer Fowler pulled the call logs and learned this was the third time police had responded to the residence about this very same issue since August 24.

When the officer went to speak to the 79-year-old woman, she told him she believes the cat is mistreated and she leaves food out for it in her garage. However, she denied the allegation that she locked the cat inside. She also denied that the cat was locked in her garage at that exact moment.

Officer Fowler asked the woman if he could check the garage to be sure the cat wasn’t in there. He wrote in his report that the woman looked hesitant to let him check but agreed to open the garage.

As soon as the garage door opened, the cat ran out of the garage.

Donna Lee Baker, 79, of Jonesboro, was cited for theft by receiving, as the officer could not show that she took possession of the cat but merely, had possession of the cat.

The next court appearance in the case is scheduled for 9 AM on December 6.
