MARION, Ark. — In a decisive judgement, Tyler R. Watkins, 29, from Marion, has been sentenced to life in prison on charges including rape. Now, authorities just need to find him.
The verdict, handed down by a Crittenden County jury, also found Watkins guilty of several Computer Child Pornography charges, imposing seven consecutive terms totaling 176 years for these offenses. An additional fine of $10,000 was imposed on Watkins, a release from the prosecutor’s office said.
The intensive two-day trial was conducted in front of Circuit Court Judge Tonya Alexander, with the state of Arkansas represented by Crittenden County Deputy Prosecutors Michael Snell and Adam Holman.
Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney, Sonia F. Hagood, praised the team’s efforts, saying, “I am very proud of the work done by our Deputy Prosecuting Attorney’s and our law enforcement partners.” Hagood further emphasized the jury’s strong message against child victimization, stating, “The jury’s message is clear, Crittenden County will not put up with criminals who victimize children.”
Following the trial, both Snell and Holman expressed gratitude to the jury for their thorough deliberation and ensuring justice for the victim. Snell also took the opportunity to commend the collaborative efforts of the West Memphis Police Department and the Jonesboro Police Department, which proved instrumental in securing Watkins’ conviction.
Reports indicated Watkins had cut off his ankle monitor and fled authorities, skipping out on his trial on Wednesday. As of the last update, he was still on the run and considered armed and dangerous. If you spot him, please contact CrimeStoppers at 870-732-4444.
