Fatal accident Thursday morning in Paragould

Paragould emergency services responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash Thursday morning on the Highway 412 bypass, a release posted by the Paragould Police Department said.

At about 8:58 AM Thursday, emergency crews received a 911 call reporting a two-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer on the 412 bypass, east of the Highway 358 intersection. First reports were that the trailer was overturned.

When crews arrived, that’s what they found. The trailer was flipped over just off the roadway while the truck was disabled in the middle of the highway. The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer had minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

The investigation is ongoing, however, authorities said preliminary details indicate that the pickup truck was westbound and passing another vehicle in a no-passing zone when it met the tractor-trailer that was traveling eastbound. The operator of the tractor-trailer attempted to avoid the crash but was unable to do so.

Police also noted the crash occurred a few hundred yards east of the Hwy 358 intersection and the intersection was not a contributing factor to the accident.
