JPD: You didn’t miss your court date. It’s a scam.

Authorities in Jonesboro are warning the public about a scam where the police themselves are being impersonated.

A social media post on Facebook by the Jonesboro Police Department said they had received dozens of calls today alone about this issue. The victims all said that they received a call from “the courts” stating that they missed their court date and are being ordered to pay anywhere from $4,000 to $15,000.

If anyone demands you to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars over the phone, police say it’s a scam. This is especially if they promise legal repercussions if you do or do not pay.

Authorities suggest you hang up and block the number that called you. And above all else, don’t send them money.
