The Monday night shooting in Jonesboro is now a homicide investigation.

One person, 17, is dead; one suspect, 15, is in custody

The Jonesboro Police Department is now investigating a murder that began as a shooting that occurred Monday night at the 1500-block of French Street in Jonesboro.

Around 9:17 PM, JPD said in a release posted to social media that officers were dispatched and discovered a male with an apparent gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid, the release said, to the 17-year-old victim on the scene before he was transported to an area hospital by EMS. On Tuesday, JPD updated that he had passed away.

Officers remained on scene investigating into the night, with CID starting their investigation. The release posted around 10 PM said detectives were searching for the suspect. No other details were given.

In an update Tuesday, police said the suspect had been apprehended. A 15-year-old suspect turned himself in around 2 AM at the Jonesboro Police Department. He was taken into custody. His name was not released. Police stated in the update the case is now being investigated as a homicide.
