Traffic along Highland Drive (Highway 18) at the Nettleton Avenue intersection began using the newly constructed Railroad/Nettleton Overpass Bridge this morning.

The bridge opened to traffic during the morning hours at the intersection of Highway 18 (Highland Drive) and Nettleton Avenue. This traffic pattern change will allow motorists to utilize the new bridge on Highland Drive and eliminate the current detour on Cain and Watt streets, the highway department said in a release.
Westbound and Eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Highland Drive until the remainder of the project can be completed. The project is expected to be completed by early summer.
Job 100824, as the highway department labels it, constructs overpasses for both State Highway 18 and Watt Street over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway railroad crossings. The contract was awarded to Capital Paving and Construction, LLC, in October 2018 for $25,182,888.88.
