An incident Wednesday night just before 11 PM involved a Jonesboro officer and a suspect both being wounded by gunfire.
A release from the department said at about 10:34pm, an officer with the Jonesboro Police Department “stepped out with a subject on Spruce Street.” Police say the subject fired upon the officer, striking him in the leg. The officer returned fire and struck the subject, which caused serious injury.
Both the officer and subject were taken to area hospitals.
Arkansas State Police have been called in to investigate this officer-involved shooting, per JPD protocol, the release said.
No names were released in the initial post to social media by the department. The release said any other details about the shooting will be released by the Arkansas State Police.
