JONESBORO, Ark. – The Jonesboro Faculty and Staff Team, JFAST, and the Craighead County Retired Teachers Association, CRTA, are teaming up to co-host the first-ever Education and Arkansas Teacher Retirement Forum for upcoming state senate and house races in Craighead County.
Current JFAST President Garrett Barnes stated, “Our members, the CRTA, and every public educator in Craighead County have perfectly reasonable questions and we all deserve honest and detailed answers from the candidates and especially incumbents. This is advocacy and democracy at work on a local level. I am extremely honored to work with such an amazingly committed, passionate, and hardworking group of educators at Jonesboro Public Schools.”
The forum is scheduled to take place from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM on Monday, February 10, 2020 at the Jonesboro Public Schools Administration Office Board Room, 2506 SW Square, in Jonesboro.
The event is open to the general public and JFAST will be providing small sandwiches, cookies, chips, and drinks.
There will also be a Voter View station set up so attendees can check their voter registration information to determine which Arkansas House race they can vote on in the upcoming primary, March 3, 2020.
Barnes also stated he hopes other school districts might be willing to co-host a General Election forum and to help make the Education and Teacher Retirement Forum a Northeast Arkansas tradition that turns out the vote among active and retired educators.
