Elderly victim was shot to death in his home

JONESBORO, Ark. – The welfare check that began Sunday afternoon at 1800 Shady Grove Road in Jonesboro quickly became a murder investigation when authorities arrived.

Donald C. Hubbard, 78, of Jonesboro, was found murdered Sunday in Jonesboro. He had been shot and killed in his home.

The exact manner of the murder was accidentally released in an incident report Monday morning. JPD asked NEA Report and other outlets not to reveal the exact specifics – a request we have agreed to. It was subsequently redacted.

The manner of death (before redaction) suggested the man was executed in his home.

The welfare check began at 3:43 PM Sunday when the step-son of the man contacted police and said he had come to the residence to check on his step-father. The report said he had not been able to get him to answer the door.

Most of the remainder of the report was masked under investigation or redacted.

Donald Clayton Hubbard owned the home, according to a search of ARCountyData.com. He has owned the home for 30 years – since at least 1990, records showed.

Late Monday afternoon, Jonesboro Police Department Public Information Specialist Sally Smith had no new information to release to the media. The case remained under investigation.

Police have asked the public to contact them with any information about the murder. 870-935-5657 is the number for the Jonesboro Police Department desk sergeant.
