Victim was reported missing Tuesday before being found murdered

JONESBORO, Ark. – The homicide investigation into the death of a woman found Tuesday night at her home began as a missing persons report.

JPD’s Sally Smith has also confirmed it was a homicide, with certainty.


A woman was reported missing around 6:46 p.m. yesterday afternoon in northwest Jonesboro, JPD said in a press release.

Officers with the Jonesboro Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Floyd Street in reference to the disappearance of Felecia Channell, 33 of Jonesboro.

A neighbor advised officers that she had not seen Channell since early morning and she had not picked up her children up from school. A missing person report was taken by the officers.

Officers were again dispatched to the neighborhood after a family member had gained entry into the home and discovered the body of Channell in the floor of her bedroom. CID was called in to investigate.

Based on evidence collected at the scene, the death is being investigated as a homicide. – JPD

The cause of death hasn’t been released. JPD said the victim’s body had been sent to the State Crime Lab to determine the cause of death.

No arrest has been made at this time.

This is still an active and ongoing investigation, police said Wednesday morning.
