Wednesday night shooting hospitalizes one in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, Ark. – One victim was hospitalized after a shooting incident took place Wednesday night in Jonesboro.

NEA Report confirmed a shots fired call came in about 9:10 PM Wednesday night, August 21 the JPD Desk Sergeant confirmed, but we later learned of calls beginning in the 7 PM hour. The incident, which began as a fight, took place on French Street, west of North Church Street. Based on what our source knew, a fight broke out between a large group of people and someone in that group pulled out a gun. That person fired the gun, hitting a victim who was taken to a nearby local hospital.

The hospital went on lock-down, as is procedure when a shooting victim arrives. A witness at the hospital told NEA Report of the lock-down, leading to us confirming the shooting. The lock-down was near being cleared when we spoke to JPD.

Police have a person of interest, a new release said. Detectives were going through the apparent large number of witnesses with late-night interviews at the Jonesboro Police Department HQ, 1001 South Caraway Road.

If anyone reading this was a witness to the fight, to the suspect who pulled a gun and fired off shots, or if you have relevant information, witnesses are being asked to call detectives at 870-935-6710.

At 10 AM Thursday, JPD released more details. Most notably, the victim’s name was released but also, details including the death of a woman at JPD after she collapsed while waiting to give witness statements.

Jonesboro Police are investigating an overnight shooting that resulted in one injury and one unrelated death.

On Wednesday evening, multiple calls were received around 7:21 p.m. about a disturbance with shots fired in the area of French and Bradley Streets. Officers were dispatched to the disturbance and were advised of a fight that resulted in gunfire.

Soon after their arrival to the area, officers were notified that a gunshot victim was being treated at St. Bernards. A witness, who was with the gunshot victim, stated they were riding in a vehicle on French street when Honesty Williams, 18 of Jonesboro, was struck in the right shoulder by a bullet. No other injuries connected to the shooting have been reported.

Several witnesses came to the Police Department to provide witness statements. One witness suffered a medical emergency and collapsed in the hallway. CPR was administered on scene. EMS was called and transported Juanita Thompson, age 43 of Jonesboro, to St. Bernards where she was later pronounced dead.

There is a person of interest in connection to the shooting. No further details will be released at this time due to the still ongoing investigation.
