Liquor store wants to move but prosecutor objects

JONESBORO, Ark. – A north Paragould liquor store owner wants to move his business to the county line with Craighead County but the district prosecutor isn’t a fan of the idea.

Michael Roleson wants to move Hilltop Spirits to the Craighead/Greene county lines but 2nd Judicial District Prosecutor Scott Ellington objected in a letter filed with the Alcohol Beverage Control Commission. In a letter dated January 11, Ellington said he felt the area is already “adequately served” by an existing store.

The Party Store on U.S. 49 is the one Ellington refers to, which would be roughly 1,000 yards from where Roleson wants to move his store.

READ MORE: In a detailed story published in Thursday's edition of The Jonesboro Sun, Roleson alleges Ellington is making the decision for personal reasons. He claims owners of The Party Store are receiving favorable treatment but Ellington stated it was based on prior objections and the possible affect on traffic for a five-lane highway.

The Arkansas ABC Commission will meet on March 13 to decide.
