Marked Tree High principal resigns following conduct investigation

MARKED TREE, Ark. – The Marked Tree High School principal resigned last week following an investigation into her conduct.

Kimberly Smith, the Marked Tree High School principal, resigned on Thursday (August 23), confirmed Superintendent Matt Wright to NEA Report. Her resignation came less than a week after the school district opened up an investigation for the purpose of investigating conduct Wright said.

“Our Marked Tree High School principal, Kimberly Smith, she resigned on August 23 – less than a week after we opened up an investigation for the purpose of investigating conduct,” Wright said. “Right now is not the time to disclose (other information). But we have implemented an administrative plan at the high school until a new principal is hired.”

Wright said it can take three to four weeks to hire a new principal in the spring. He said it would be more difficult with the new school year having just begun.

Smith was the Marked Tree High School principal since August, 2017. She was previously a teacher and a math coach at Marked Tree High School, having worked at the school since August, 2002, according to her LinkedIn account.
