JONESBORO, Ark. – An accident in Izard County claimed the life of a Pocahontas man on Friday.
Charles A. Burtman, 56, of Pocahontas, was killed in a crash at 12:30 PM Friday, August 24, 2018. The report from Arkansas State Police says it happened on Highway 9 at Sylamore – a small, unincorporated community in Izard County.
A 2006 Yamaha XVC13, driven by Burtman, was traveling southbound on Highway 9 when it reached a curve. That’s where the report said the driver failed to negotiate the curve, running off the roadway and traveling over an embankment, finally coming to a rest on Fowler Road.
Weather was clear and roads were listed as dry during the time of the accident. Next of kin were notified, the preliminary report said.
