JONESBORO, Ark. – A 6-year-old child was found walking the sidewalks with no parental supervision Monday afternoon near the area of Ferrell and Heather Ridge in Jonesboro.
Police were called to the area at 11:10 a.m. where a young boy was found crying by a caller. The caller stayed with the child until police arrived. The child pointed authorities to his home. He said he woke up and his mom and dad were gone so he decided to go looking for them.
The officer spoke with the father of the boy after learning where he worked. The father said he had left for work and took the child’s older brother to school, thinking the mother – still asleep – would take the 6-year-old and his younger brother to a baby sitter. Somehow, the mother thought the 6-year-old was in school and left him at home alone when she took the younger child to a baby sitter.
No charges were filed by the responding officer. DCFS came to the location to investigate. The case was turned over to them.
