JONESBORO, Ark. – Why would a Texas woman end up in Jonesboro at a school, asleep, while having a gun lying next to her? The bizarre incident report from JPD provides some clues to the strange question.
At 7:37 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2017, Officer Stephen Eaton was sent to University Heights Intermediate School, 3901 Aggie Road, in reference to an unresponsive female in a vehicle parked on school grounds. The caller, a teacher, advised a handgun was visible in the front seat of her car. The report indicates teachers and students were on site for summer activities during the time of the incident.
Police spoke with the woman, Nikcole Taylor Dakhan, 22, of Burleson, Texas. At the time, she was also awake, speaking to some employees of the school. The woman said she had been staying with friends the night before but left at 4:30 a.m. due to an argument. She drove to the school parking lot in her silver 2005 Toyota 4-Runner and went to sleep, she said.
As school employees had trouble getting her awake, she was first feared to be in medical distress. EMS arrived on the scene but the woman refused treatment.
Because of a handgun being in the vehicle on school property, probable cause to search the vehicle was found by Eaton, who found a marijuana pipe and grinder.
Dakhan was arrested and taken to Craighead County Detention Center to be booked on charges of possession of a firearm on school property and possession of misdemeanor drug paraphernalia.
