Tennis courts renovated at Earl Bell Center

JONESBORO, Ark. – Tennis enthusiasts are already enjoying an upgraded experience at Earl Bell Community Center.

With the aid of a matching grant from the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, the City of Jonesboro has completely resurfaced three tennis courts, partnering with City Water and Light to install new light poles and LED lighting.

“Those courts were in rough shape, and the amount of play we get meant it was important,” City Parks Director Wixson Huffstetler said. “It’s really cleaned up the area.”

The courts are open to the public and the lights go off automatically at 10:30 p.m. nightly.

The City contributed half of the $133,000 cost of the new courts, and Mayor Harold Perrin pointed out the teamwork that made this quality of life feature happen.

“We’re grateful to Kane Webb and his staff at the Department of Parks and Tourism, and of course CWL is always answering our call,” Perrin said. “We’re all in this together, and that makes Jonesboro special.”
