JONESBORO, Ark. – A traffic stop, a nervous occupant and eventually, a meth arrest were all part of a probable cause affidavit obtained by NEA Report on Friday.
The arrest happened on Thursday, May 18, when investigators with the Street Crimes Unit conducted a traffic stop on a red pick-up driving left of the center line. Investigator Brian Bailey made contact with the driver identified as Jason Lynn Gordon, 38, of Jonesboro. He collected his information and then returned to check Gordon through dispatch. At the same time, Investigator Jason Chester watched Gordon who was unable to sit still, hands shaking, and attempting to look for or locate where Bailey was at – the affidavit says.
When Bailey returned, he asked Gordon to exit the vehicle and speak with him. At the same time, Chester looked through the passenger window and could see the orange end cap of a needle in the driver floor board. He then walked around to the driver side and looked through the window. Under the driver seat, Chester could see two capped needles and a small set of black digital scales. It was enough for him to tell Bailey to place Gordon in handcuffs.
With suspected drug paraphernalia in plain view, Chester opened the door and retrieved the items. On the scales, the affidavit filed Friday, May 19 says was a white grainy residue. It was crystal methamphetamine. one of the needles appeared to be used. While searching the vehicle, several small white grainy pieces were found. Two samples tested positive for meth. Two more needles were located in the center console.
Gordon was placed under arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia for meth, a felony. While at Craighead County Detention Center, according to the affidavit, he said, “The rigs (needles) and scales are for meth but the crumbs were planted.”
The evidence was collected and logged at JPD. The suspected meth will be sent to the State Crime Lab for testing.
Gordon is charged with felony possession of meth or cocaine, less than two grams, and felony possession of drug paraphernalia. Both charges carry penalties up to a $10,000 fine and/or up to six years in prison.
